Do you have bad banging in the cab of your Tacoma? Or maybe a lean to one side? It could be your body Mounts!
A few months ago, we started hearing a slight banging coming from under the driver seat in our 2013 Tacoma. This noise was only bad on big bumps. Gradually it became worse and worse.
After a few more wheeling trips, the banging had gotten so bad that the smallest pothole would result in banging. I was at the point of frustration and had to get down to the culprit of this terrible noise.
I started examining the under carriage of the truck. Just as I was at a loss, I had noticed that the pinch welds on the Bottom of the cab had been contacting my rock sliders.
Generally, this can mean two things:
1. My rock sliders are flexing when on the rocks.
OR 2. On big bumps my body was contacting the rock sliders.
After further analyzing the situation I determined it had to be the body mount bushings. So, I took to the forums and discovered this was a common problem on Tacoma’s.
After looking up replacement options, I gave a call over to Energy Suspension and got just what I needed!
They had sent me a complete bushing replacement kit. This comes with six total bushings. Two are located under the radiator supports, and Two underneath the cab.
THE OVERALL INSTALL
This had been my first time ever replacing cab mount bushings but I knew it would be to bad.
The total install time took about 3 hours. It took me a bit longer than expected simply because the cubbies behind the back seats (Double Cab) have to removed and our truck is loaded with tools and spare parts for wheeling. I also had the passenger rear body mount bolt seize which made it a bit more challenging as well.
Anyway, install is quite simple. It’s an install that can be done in the driveway with a jack and a piece of wood and basic hand tools.
They aftermarket Bushings look much better also! After a test drive, I was beyond relieved! My cab was once again quiet and the banging was gone!
Id highly recommend doing this on any Tacoma and prevent the problem before it starts! Our truck had 120,000 when we started hearing banging, but we only had about 3,000 Offroad miles on it at that time!
